Mark Garnier MP with 11 year-old student Alfie Bourne
On Friday 4th February 11 year-old student Alfie Bourne met Mark Garnier MP as part of the “One Young Person, One Parliamentarian, One Hour” campaign, supported by The Diana Award and the All Party Parliamentary Group on Mentoring. Alfie, a student at Holy Trinity School in Kidderminster, was nominated by his mentor Pam Jarvie for the honour, as not only is he a young carer, he also has a keen interest in national politics and world news. Pam volunteers as a mentor with Mentor Link and supports Alfie with weekly one-to-one mentoring sessions. Pam accompanied Alfie to the meeting and said “Alfie felt special and priviledged to be chosen to meet his local MP and arrived prepared with his list of questions”. Alfie asked Mark what inspired him to become an MP and how it felt being interviewed on television. Alfie also spoke about climate change and wheelchair access on pavements and buses (something which is close to his heart). Alfie was buzzing and found the whole experience really interesting. Mark enjoyed meeting Alfie and thanked Pam for supporting him through Mentor Link.
