Mentor Link celebrates reunion of Mentor and Mentee!

Posted on 27/10/2017

As part of National Mentoring Day local children’s charity Mentor Link are celebrating an important reunion of Mentor Sandra and Marissa, who was mentored 10 years ago and who herself has now become a mentor for the charity. In 2006 Marissa was in Year 9 at a High School in the Wyre Forest when she was provided with one to one mentoring support by Mentor Link. At the time Marissa was a young carer; her parents had parted and Mum was tired as she was looking after 7 young children. Marissa had to organise her siblings’ meals and daily chores, and was referred for mentoring to help her cope with the demands of home and school life. Sandra helped her focus on her own needs and as Marissa writes, “ I was the agony aunt at school and young carers group and Sandra and I were a great match. She helped me to focus on the future and I now want to give something back to young people by becoming a mentor myself.”
Recently Marissa applied to become a mentor with Mentor Link and met up with her original Mentor Sandra who helped and supported her in school each week from 2006 to 2008.
