Mentor Link Conference 2017

Posted on 10/05/2017

Last Wednesday, the 3rd May, Mentor Link held its 7th Annual Conference at The Worcestershire Federation of Young Farmers Hall.

Guest speakers included Jane Bradley with a talk on Psychosis and Mental Health, Cathy Parvin with a talk on Dyspraxia Education, and Helena Baxter came to talk to us about Apprenticeship opportunities for young people. All speakers were really engaging, talking on very interesting topics, and our attendees told us: “The speech on Dyspraxia I found really interesting. All parents should be aware of this and teachers in schools!”; “Really enjoyed the speakers, particularly on Dyspraxia and Psychosis”; “The talk on Apprenticeships was helpful.”

As well as listening to the talks, participants also took part in a creative team challenge to create a Worry Monster. The idea behind this was to offer mentors an extra resource and idea for mentoring sessions, where the mentee could create something to take their worries away by eating them! All of the entries were really fabulous, but the lucky winners (chosen by an independent adjudicator!) were the team of Claire Quinn, and mentors Rosemary, Natasha and Jane. You can see all the pictures below – would you have chosen the same winner?

A special thank you also to our Long Service Mentors awarded at the event: Sally Edney, Jan Smith and Val Barlow. Hopefully you’ll be supporting us for many more years to come!

The homemade cakes by staff went down particularly well, and other lovely comments from the day were:

“I have been to a few Mentor Link Conferences but I think this has been the best!”

“Very well organised and great to meet up and make new friends!”

“Very friendly, relaxed and informative.”

We hope to see you all next year!
