Thank you to the High Sheriff of Worcestershire

Posted on 16/03/2022

A very big thank you to Richard Amphlett the High Sheriff of Worcestershire for nominating Mentor link as one of his chosen charities for support. Richard kindly awarded 2 of our dedicated volunteer mentors with his award yesterday at the Stourport Manor Hotel.
Simon Downes has been with the charity for over 5 years and provided dedicated support to many young boys facing difficulties including one boy whose father had taken his own life. Simon listened to this young boy and was able to help him through the cycle of grieving including the anger and sadness he felt towards his dad and the tragic circumstances of his death. His teacher wrote, “your mentor really does provide an incredible amount of support”

Another dedicated mentor is Colin Jones who works in the Evesham area and supports young boys. Colin kindly dedicates one day a week to mentoring vulnerable children in schools and at present is supporting 7 boys.
One boy who is a Looked After Child Colin has been mentoring since 2017. This young person faced a terrible start in life and had to be taken into full time care due to his home life. The school recognised the need for a positive adult role model so Colin has been mentoring him through Primary School. Colin has provided long term, dedicated, and sustained mentoring to ensure that Jamie gets the best possible support to succeed in life. The teacher writes, “Jamie has a fantastic relationship with his mentor. He talks to him and feels comfortable, and as a result his confidence has grown.”

Thank you again to Richard Amphlett the High Sheriff of Worcestershire for his kind support.

We urgently need more volunteer mentors so please contact 01299 822336 or Enquiries@mentorlink.org.uk for further information.
