CARL’S STORY
Carl was referred by school for 1-1 mentoring and therapeutic support 2 years’ ago.
When we met with Carl, he told us that he wanted help with his behaviour and for someone to listen to the challenges he was facing, and to make sense of his emotions.
As a care experienced child, who had experienced trauma, there were concerns around his behaviour, self-harming and he was struggling with low mood and anxiety.
School wanted Carl to share his emotions with a trusted adult in a safe space. We introduced Carl to Mentor Marie, and they have been working together to break down the challenges, to feel better about himself and more engaged in his learning. Over time Marie and Carl have built a trusting relationship, and Carl has learned to express his emotions, and manage them.
Carl has told Marie that he would like to have a career in the armed forces, so she is also supporting him through his GCSE studies, and future goals. Carl has also shared that he enjoys playing rugby for a local team, and there is potential of playing at a higher level. Carl’s outlook in life is now a positive one and he is succeeding in his learning.
If you would like to support a vulnerable child/young person like Carl and help towards achieving a young person’s full potential get in touch with us about being a Mentor.
